PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver

PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver

Course Information

The PADI Open Water Diver course is the entry level course and your fist step on the diver training program. The course qualifies divers down to a maximum depth of 18m and for 10 to 14 year olds, there is the Junior Open Water Diver which certifies the diver down to a maximum depth of 12m. The Junior Open Water Diver is exactly the same course and when the diver turns 15, they can apply for the full Open Water Diver Course.

The course is broken down into 3 main sections, Theory, Confined Sessions (Pool Work) and Open Water dives. The new digital learning program, PADI Touch, means you can download the materials directly to your iPad, phone, computer etc. and relax in the comfort of your own chair at home and do the theory at your own pace. The combination of reading, short video clips and quizzes makes the learning process as easy as possible and if you do get stuck, we always have instructors available to talk you through it in store or over the phone. Once you have completed the 5 theory sections with their associated knowledge reviews there is a final 50 question exam.

Once the theory is complete, you're ready for the confined water sessions. There are 5 confined sessions which we split over 2 pool sessions in our onsite heated swimming pool to give you as much time in the water as you need to ensure you are as comfortable as possible in the water before we move onto the open water dives.

Once the theory and pool work are complete you are ready for the Open Water Dives. There are a total of 4 dives which we carry out during one of our training weekends at Capernwray. During the 4 dives you will go over the skills you learned in the pool but in slightly deeper water. Once the skills for each dive are complete your instructor will take you on a pleasure dive to help your confidence grow.

All our courses are taught in drysuits. This means you are as comfortable as possible during your course. If you sign up for the extra dive on the Sunday you can also receive your PADI Drysuit Specialty certification.
